The Future of Legal Aid Conference
On the 17th of July 2006 the implications of the Carter report as it relates to criminal defence practice will be thrashed out at this all day conference organised by the Independent Lawyer. The venue is the Law Society's Hall, 113 Chancery Lane, London.
Lord Carter himself will give the keynote speech at the event and will be joined by Stephen Hockman and Geoffrey Vos, chairman and vice chairman of the Bar Council and Rodney Warren, chair of the Law Society representation board. Franklin Sinclair of Tuckers, Manchester will represent large firms whilst a group including members of the Black Solicitors Network will discuss the future of small, specialist firms. Other speakers include Sundeep Bhatia, solicitor advocate at Brent Law Practice, London; Avtar Bhatoa, solicitor advocate and partner at Bullivant & Partners, London; John Williams, managing director, Bankside Law, London and John Harding, chair of the VHCC (very high cost cases) appeals panel and partner at the London firm, Kingsley Napley.
The Government's view will be presented by the Minister of Constitutional Affairs, Harriet Harman QC at the conference.
