WELCOME TO BLD's NEWSLETTER

Welcome to our August 2007 Newsletter. A reminder that you can now read all our previous Newsletters online in our Newsletter Archive.

Patricia Scotland, Baroness ScotlandOur Lawyer of the Month last Month was Sandie Okoro, the Global General Counsel for Barings Asset Management and In Focus was Des Hudson, the Chief Executive of the Law Society. We are taking a summer break and there is no Lawyer of the Month or in Focus this month. Instead we feature Patricia Scotland QC who made legal history in June 2007 when she became the first ethnic minority and the first female to become the Attorney General. She also made BLD history by being the first person to be featured twice as our Lawyer of the Month, as we updated her May 2006 feature.

All our events, schemes, workshops, etc. are now part of our Legal Gateway Scheme. We have introduced two new Programmes we are launching in late autumn:

Today's Children, Tomorrow's Lawyers Today's Children, Tommorow's Lawyers (TCTL)Programme for the 13-17 year olds; and

Legal Launch pad imageThe Legal Launch Pad (LLP) Programme for those aged 18 and over.

To find out more information including, participating in the Scheme, do see our Legal Gateway Pack or email legalgateway@onlineBLD.com.

In September 2007 our Black Letter Law publication will be out and the official launch is at Clifford Chance on the 4th October 2007. We are delighted to announce that that Mrs Justice will be our keynote speaker at that event. Until its first publication in 2006, there has never been a publication like it in this country. We are staggered by the contribution we have received and the information we have unearthed which means that the 2007 edition will be many times bigger, better and more inspiring than the 2006 edition. Law firms such as DLA Piper and Linklaters are already on board as advertisers. To find out further information about the Black Letter Law publication, including advertising opportunities, please do see our Black Letter Law Media Pack.
