Lawyers of the Month

Angela Jackman was our Lawyer of the Month for April. She is a partner at the London office of Maxwell Gillott and was the winner of the Outstanding Achievement award at the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Silver Jubilee awards in 2009.

The purpose of Lawyer of the Month is to showcase the breadth of talent of ethnic minority lawyers despite their under-representation at the top and wherever there is real lucrative work. There is so much to be done, and that can be done, and the Diversity League Table 2006 graphically demonstrates this in the statistics of the Top 100 law firms. However, despite that, the wealth of talent of black minority ethnic lawyers is amazing and we at BLD want to celebrate it in our Lawyer of the Month features.

"Black Letter Law is an example of a simple but brilliant idea., beautifully executed by Debo Nwauzu and her team. It is an essential publication on so many levels: as a straightforward directory to some of the most talented lawyers around; as a historical record of the inroads that black lawyers are making; and as an inspirational read for anyone thinking of a career in Law. Since it's launch, BLL has not only charted changes being made in the profession, but also helped bring that change about. I defy anyone to read it without getting a warm glow!"
